Fivizzano, in the province of Massa Carrara, stands behind the south-western Tuscany and Emilia dell'Appennino of Lunigiana, on the road leading to the passage of Cerreto. During the medieval period, the village was identified in the castle of Verrucola built by the Malaspina Spinetta above homes. For many centuries remained under the rule of Malaspina family in 1477 when it came under the power of Florence.
